Based on education levels which team would you hire to run the US?

March 12010

With America facing historic debt, multiple war fronts, stumbling health care, a weakened dollar, all-time high prison population, skyrocketing Federal spending, mortgage crises, bank foreclosures, etc.

Let’s look at the educational background of your two options:
Obama:
Occidental College – Two years.
Columbia University – B.A. political science with a specialization in
international relations.
Harvard – Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude
Biden:
University of Delaware – B.A. in history and B.A. in political science.
Syracuse University College of Law – Juris Doctor (J.D.)

vs.

McCain:
United States Naval Academy – Class rank 894 of 899
Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University – 1 semesterNorth Idaho College
2 semesters – general study
University of Idaho – 2 semesters – journalism Matanuska-Susitna College – 1 semester
University of Idaho – 3 semesters – B.A. in journalism

You can tell by their interviews alone who is more educated. Im not talking about when you are repeating a speech that a professional speech writer wrote. Im talking about an interview and you have no clue what you are going to be asked. Example Palin and Katie Couric.
That interview alone showed she has no education at all. Couric was not even attacking her. Biden has been on Meet The Press 42 times.
John Mc Cain has no education at all. Obama is a lawyer with a Harvard Degree and has a degree in political science.

McCain and Palin are not even qualified to manage at any retail store.

If you dont believe these education levels do the research like I did.

Obama/Biden

High Street stores breach international labour standards?

February 272010

Does it put you off buying their clothing when you read things like this?
http://business.guardian.co.uk/retail/story/0,,2161302,00.html

ASDA(Wal Mart), TESCO, etc etc breach international labour laws constantly. They bully farmers in the UK and keep prices down to the detriment of both the farming community and the local community. They constantly flout the planning laws, they constantly sell fuel at a loss as a market leader to the detriment of rural filling stations, I hear they will soon have in store Post Offices.

With all the will in the world where was I last night?
ASDA – cheap fuel, cheap cigarettes, cheap shopping.

The answer? Not a clue!!!

Where can I shop online for international clothes labels i.e. urban and street wear & accessories etc.?

February 252010

I am in Australia. I am sick of relying on the choices that retail stores make when deciding which items to import. I want access to all of a labels line.

So, does anyone have a webstore address that will ship to Australia, and has a variety of clothing labels?

Theres a new UK store. www.urbangarms.com, don’t how long its been running but they seem to be adding new clothes everyday.

Civilian jobs at international military bases??

February 232010

I recently applied for a job at a retail store on Misawa Air Force Base in Japan (I’m from the USA), and I was wondering- do the civilians live on-base like the rest of the military personnel or do they have to find accommodation off-base?? any input would be helpful!

That really all depends.

You sound like you applied for a job with AAFES. Unless you are a manager and drawing LQA (quarters allowance), you will have to pay for your own place off base.

If you are a GS (or other AF employee) and are hired from outside of the country you are working in (or GS9+ with special waiver if hired from in country), then you will be paid LQA based on your rank and the cost of living where you are.

Only military members are going to be given housing on base. Civilians are not entitled to that. The housing office may be willing to help you find a place to live and help you with the contracts and such, but they are not required to provide that assistance to civilians.

Give up a songs licensing rights for 5 YEARS!?

February 212010

I have an opportunity to have one of my songs (one of my more popular ones) to be included on a compilation CD with 11,000 distributed all over the globe, retail stores, radio, etc. BUT… the record company, WOA international, asks to keep the exclusive licensing rights to the song for 5 years! That means that song cant appear on other compilations, video games or appear in TV/film spots, etc by sources OTHER than threw WOA’s efforts. Although during those 5 years, they say they will be actively shopping the song around during those 5 years.
Is this a good deal?
I do need the exposure (like most musicians) even though my stuff can be found all over the indie sites online, however I have about 6-7 nonexclusive publishers shopping for me AND I just got a distribution deal (mostly digital). What I am missing is the press, marketing and promotion I guess. This WOA deal is exclusive for 5 years AND i might be asked to pay $200 for the compilation spot. hmmm… they’re a legitimate label, but this still kinda smells like a bad deal, expecially for one of my most popular songs. Thanks! If anyone wants to hear my stuff, its at rkanemusic.com song #3 in question

Attorney….<sigh> I’m at a weird juncture in my career. No money for an attorney but lots of small deals and inquiries coming my way.

This is something you want to confer with an entertainment lawyer with. On the surface it sounds like a very bad deal since you did not mention any monetary compensation and no advance money. If you need the exposure however, it could be a great way to get your foot int he door. In essence WOA becomes your publishing company for that song for five years. As long as you do not give up ownership of the song, or your rights to receive compensation as the composer of the tune and author of the lyrics, this is not an unusual arrangement in that regard. That’s why you want to retain consul however. You or I don’t know what could be hidden in the contract that you are inevitably going to have to sign.

The bottom line is, if you have nothing to lose and everything to gain and you are not signing your rights away, go for it. If you already have an established reputation and you don’t need the exposure, avoid this. If you can afford to get legal representation and get better advice, I would recommend that you do so. If you can’t afford legal representation, then my best advice is that it might give you the exposure you need to do it up right next time. Best of luck with the song and if it gets posted online, I’d love to hear it sometime.

Is IKEA furniture expensive or affordable to most people?

February 192010

IKEA is said to be an international home products retailer that sells low-price products, including furniture, accessories, bathrooms and kitchens at retail stores around the world. However, for some people the price is quite expensive. What do you think?

I believe IKEA has a lot of items that are cheap, but that doesn’t make them affordable. They advertise that they are inexpensive because they use a cookie cutter process to make their items, but to me, a $1000 bedroom set is indeed expensive, especially if you’ll have to buy another one in a couple years due to its poor quality.

Yes, they have $5.00 lamps and $10.00 tables, but what good does it do your pocketbook to buy these items if they’ll just break and need replacing?
