Anyone know where to buy Alien Workshop clothing in Canada? Online vendors or stores in Toronto?

March 112010

I haven’t been able to find a source other than DNA distribution, which doesn’t take international orders.

I don’t know of any Toronto stores – you might have to look for skateboard gear / boarding stores (like Boathouse, on Yonge near the Eaton Centre) and call/ask if they carry AW or know who does. Here are some online vendors that specifically state they will ship internationally / to Canada:

ActionVillage.com carries about 15 different Alien Workshop garments: http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/AVI-Store-Site/en_US/-/USD/EasyAskSearch-Search?Action=CA_CategoryExpand&CategoryPath=All+Products%2F%2F%2F%2FAttribSelect%3DManufacturer%3D%27Alien+Workshop%27&ByBrand=True

Tactics.com carries about 20 different garments from AW: http://www.tactics.com/alien-workshop/clothing

Calsk8.com carries about 50 different garments from AW: http://www.calsk8.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=25&osCsid=4d8964475e276f5e517c65e5bfa1ba7e

Backcountryoutlet.com carries about 10 different garments from AW, sold at a discount: http://www.backcountryoutlet.com/outlet/search.html?mv_session_id=CwZxsKed&q=alien+workshop&x=0&y=0

SkateAmerica sells about 20-30 AW garments, but I’m not sure if they ship internationally: http://www.skateamerica.com/store/Alien-Workshop-All-Products_C87.cfm

There are also a few online stores like Suburban Blend, Snapspeed, Shop CCS, Loserkids, WarehouseSkateboards, and Blackholeboards that sell only 5-10 AW garments and may or may not ship internationally (I’m too lazy to check), but they might have some "hidden gems" of AW clothing.

Hope this helps!

recommend a good online store where you can buy clothes…with normal prices and international shipping….

My current favorite is freepeople.com for "weekend" clothes. For slightly dressier things I really like couturecandy.com.

Open up a clothes store?

March 72010

Hello,

How difficult is it to open up your own clothes store in London? Any Ideas of costs etc and where should I get good stock i.e. UK wholesalers or International?

The key is location – London is a big place!

A store in a wapping side street will be much cheaper than a prime pitch in Picadilly.

You need a shop with plenty of passing trade, not tucked away down an alley. Large enough to display a good range and store your stock but not so big the rent cripples you. Look for old shops in the area you like which have been vacant for a while, the owners will be keen to rent it as they still have to pay rates on the property even if it’s empty. Negotiate an initial rent-free period as an incentive for you to sign a lease – say 3 months. This will be a big boost in getting started. Other costs will include business rates (shop version of council tax) possible maintenance fees for the building, electricity (poss. gas but uncommon) phone etc. Also you’ll need to factor in advertising costs – flyers / magazine or paper ad’s / posters etc.

Look around for shops which are being fitted out or demolished as you can oftern pick up display counters / window dressing supplies / clothes racks for free as they’re being thrown out.

As for stock, you will make the best profits on items you import from abroad – particularly China as their goods are of nice quality, cheap and they trade in US $ so you get alot for your money at the moment with the exchange rate being so good. On average it takes about 2 – 3 months from placing your order to receiving it if shipping from China, sea freight is the most economical way of shipping and takes around 30 days. Make sure you are not caught out by the added costs of importing – when your items arrive they will have VAT / import duty added to them and you will have to pay some port fees / brokerage / clearing fees. For a shipment big enough to fill a couple of transit vans you’ll pay approx. £300 – £400 in port fees with the VAT being applied at the relevant rate. Even with these added costs, you;ll still be getting the items cheaper than UK wholesalers will sell them for.

Good wholesalers in CHina are easy enough to find on-line, don’t be tempted to pay for a subscription service / wholesaler listing as these are usually pretty useless. A bit of a naughty tip – if you use a file sharing program like Limewire / bittorrent etc. you can set it to search for documents and search for ‘wholesale list’ ‘wholesale supply’ etc. and get a few lists for free, you may find something good there. (just remember to do a virus scan on any file you download before opening it)

Don’t be put off by the competition, alot of traders give up on an idea because there are alot of others doing it – you just have to make sure you are better, cheaper, offer superior service, deal with queries quicker and you’ll win your share of the market.

Good luck, I hope it goes well.

I want to open up my own stores nationwide…and become well known for it? *ADOLESCENT*?

March 52010

How do I open up my own international store that will be out of countries too?
I want a store that sells clothing, shoes, bags, accessories, makeup, etc

and I want people to reconize me and take me seriously in this industry
how??? do i have to find an agent?

Thanks you.

The only way I know would be to start your own "market stall" and become so successful that you then open your own "small shop" and become so successful that you can open your "shop" and become so successful that you can grow into two "shops" and then just open three, then four, then five and so on till they’ll take you seriously.

How to start a business?

March 12010

I am 15 and I live in Ireland. I have always wanted to start a business and next school year (Sept ‘08 to May ‘09) is a doss year so I’ll have loads of spare time. Over the summer I’d love to start an online clothing store. How do I go about doing this and is there any Irish/UK clothing wholesalers or international ones that have good products?

What country is best for expanding globally considering their political economy & international trade?

February 272010

I have to write a CPA (country portfolio analysis) report on the country of my choice from Europe, Asia, Africa or South America. I have to explore the possibility of doing business in another country. I don’t want anyone to write the report for me i just want to get off on the right start but please some reasons why you chose the country you did. (the business is a clothing store)

South Africa,

for the following reasons:

-Corporate tax rates recently cut to 28% by Finance minister,
-Growing middle class, and robust consumer spending
-Relative dollar cost to run the business would much lower than in Europe though possibly not as low as Asia.
-Although listed as an emerging market – increasing the perception of risk attached to investing – South Africa’s growth is comparable to Australia in the last 3 yrs
-Burgeoning international fashion destination particularly out of the coastal city of Cape Town which undoubtedly the design & art capital of South Africa (not to mention the world-class wine farms & beaches)

for more info on South Africa and doing business there use this website to launch your research efforts
