Wal-Mart international?

March 12010

It would be great if someone would tell me what country wal-mart opened it’s first non american store, and when as well as what sources the used

Wal-Mart became an international company in 1991 when a SAM’S Club opened near Mexico City. Just two years later, Wal-Mart International was created to oversee the growing opportunities for the company worldwide.

Has Anyone had a business relationship with Dollar Days International?

February 272010

I find myself with a lot of their stock after they merged with what was left of Insignia Solution after their assets were purchased by Smith Microsystems. They are a supplier of dollar stores. They are supposed to be going public at the first of the year if you can believe what they tell you.

I have some too – been following their 8k’s on SEC site – I hope they pump the crap out of this thing when the time comes – I just wanted my insignia cash distribution – but Dollar Stores are a hot sector right now – ‘hot’ being a relative word in this market. Where did you see/hear going public first of year? They just switched auditors – may take a little longer.

Where can I find Cheerwine in Louisville, Ky?

February 252010

Cheerwine is my favorite soda, but I can’t find it anywhere. The first time I had was at a charity thing I was helping at and they let me take the rest home! It is so good and I love cherry anything. I found it at this international grocery store called Jungle Jims outside of Cincinatti but that is a far drive just for soda, but that place has everything. If anyone has any tips or can find a distributor closer than cincinatti that would be awesome!

Cheerwine is available in most of the southeastern United States, from West Virginia south to Georgia, but is better known and has been a longtime favorite in the Carolinas and Virginia. It is famous in Charleston, South Carolina and along the Carolina coast. Other spots to find Cheerwine are the many "specialty soda" stores throughout the country, such as The Fondren Beverage Emporium in Jackson, Mississippi. In April of 2005, other regions of the United States began to bottle Cheerwine; mainly through Pepsi distributors. The first area outside the traditional market area was Quincy, Illinois. Other areas added recently include Burlington, Iowa; Duluth, Minnesota; Chattanooga, Tennessee (in certain stores); Tulsa, Oklahoma; Topeka, Kansas; Rolla, Missouri; and the University Of Nebraska-Lincoln, in Nebraska. It can be found in vending machines in eastern Ohio and in Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology of Terre Haute, Indiana, and in some restaurants in San Francisco, California.

However, these recent moves to expand outside of the southeast are not new. In the 1970s Cheerwine could be found in the Chicago area, for example.

Buying/ Selling textbooks on campus and international textbooks.?

February 232010

Hello,
I’m planning on selling my used textbooks next year to new incoming students to that class, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me from experience whether or not books with highlights and notes in them sell for less, or if the students actually like used textbooks with notes written in the margins. What about when selling to the used book stores?
Also, a question about international books:
I’m a freshman in college, and and I just realized there were such things as "international" textbooks sold online. I didn’t buy it first semester despite their cheaper prices, because I did not trust them. I’m wondering how those international versions differ from the actual print. What are some cons for purchasing the international version instead of the real version? And has anyone tried selling the international books after use? Are students still interested in buying a used "fake" version? Thank you.

Hi, I’m also thinking about selling my books next year. People will still buy them with highlightings, but not for very much. Also, in my experience, everyone I knew bought their books new, so you need to really advertise.
I bought one of those international textbooks in my first year. I’m a psychology student and the recommended textbook for one of my modules was £70 but I managed to buy a version that was to be sold in India off ebay for £25 including p+p. The book is exactly the same, including page numbers etc. The ONLY difference was that it was in black and white instead of colour, it didn’t come with the cd of resources (which no one uses anyway!) and it had a different front cover. I still use that book now, I’m so glad I didn’t pay the £70 advertised in my book store!!

Scandal band (japan)

February 222010

Scandal is a Japanese pop group. Proclaiming themselves as “The Most Powerful Japanese Girlie Pop Rock”, they are comprised of four high school girls from Osaka, Japan: Haruna Ono, Tomomi Ogawa, Mami Sasazaki, and Rina Suzuki. Scandal is very energetic, mostly due to the fact that Ono, the eldest and leader of the band, shares lead vocals with the other three members, in order to not have a focus on one girl in particular and to give each time in the limelight.

talented four high school girls in Osaka, Japan. Every weekend since, SCANDAL has been very actively performing at SHIROTEN, a sacret place for street live performance at Osaka Castle Park. Time goes and SCANDAL starts to get offers from clubs and music halls around Osaka and Kyoto.

Eventually, more than one hundred fans constantly appear for every single live performance of SCANDAL on street, and positive rumors and the band recognition spread to Nation wide that people in Tokyo start to talk about SCANDAL. On Aug.2007, SCANDAL grabbed the opportunity to participate the special event at Shibuya Club Asia, a most recognized and respected club with the long history in Shibuya, a center of new cultures in Japan. During the SCANDAL’s first trip to Tokyo, they were invited to the radio show as guest artists and also some University Fest. invited SCANDAL for the stage. As an Indies band with unreleased songs, SCANDAL unusually and rapidly penetrate into not only the music industry but into the local community as well.

Eventually, more than one hundred fans began to consistently attend every single live performance Scandal performed on Tokyo’s streets, and the band began to take wide-spread public notice throughout Japan. In August 2007, Scandal seized the opportunity to participate in a special event at Shibuya Club Asia, a highly recognized and respected club in Shibuya, a cultural hub in Japan. It was during this time that record label Tower Records first asked the four girls if they would like to have their music recorded with them. Several months later, the girls had worked out a flexible independent agreement with Tower, and SCANDAL started to become more mainstream.

Their first indie single was released on March 3, 2008 in celebration of Girl’s Day, which sold out throughout Japan and has a hard time being kept in stock due to high demand. In in order to alleviate the fan’s troubles in getting this album, the single was released on both the US and Japanese iTunes Music Store on April 9, 2008. Two more singles (in CD form) have been released in the months following.

Right after their first release, Scandal left Japan to go on their first international tour, “Japan Nite US Tour 2008″, followed by two concerts at the Japanese cultural and anime convention, “Sakura-Con 2008″ from March 16 to March 30.

Scandal’s music has been featured in a number of movies and television shows including their second single, “Koi Moyo”, being the main theme of the movie Corazon de Melon, and their first single, “Space Ranger”, being the opening to Kyoto Sports Weekly.

An interesting note about the group is the unique way in which they chose to promote themselves. Since they are fans of Japanese animation and manga, they wanted to be represented in animated form, turning each member into an animated character. The animated SCANDAL is featured on Japanese Television and on a series of promotional videos on the band’s website.

The group currently is making plans for a summer tour and further singles to release in the coming year.

what is a good book to help with preparing to travel to japan?

February 212010

i will be traveling to japan in early april ‘07 and i was trying to find a good book about japan to help me prepare for the trip. this is my first international trip. in the past, i have used the dummies books (i.e., hawaii for dummies, etc) and they have been very helpful, however, they do not make one for japan. i went to the book store and i was able to find a couple good books on customs and etiquette of japan, as well as, a basic japanese phrase book. i guess i’m looking for more of a travel guide book (i.e., where to stay, tips on getting around, best cherry blossom sites, etc)….frommers makes a book, but was hoping there was something simpler out there (like the dummies books). i should also mention that i will be spending my time in tokyo. thanks for your help.

i have lived abroad, and traveled all over the place. out of all of the travel books out there, lonely planet is by far the best. it seriously is the traveler’s bible. they make them for everything you can possibly think of, and they cover everything. i used them in china, while i was backpacking southeast asia, and all over europe. everyone else i talk to swears by their lonely planet guide books.

what will happen to an international student after being caught for shoplifting as the first offender?

February 172010

I just hanged off the phone and went panic. My cousin, a 25 year girl who is doing summer internship in a big firm in NYC, got caught in a department store on 5th Ave. The store security did not call the policemen but arranged a settlement by giving her $300 fine. The item she stole was $60. She was so ashamed by what she did, she has never ever done this before. I Promise she is a good girl and she didnt get raised in this way either.

They took a picture of her and searched her all over, got her ID info, employment firm info, mailing address. They said there is no criminal record b/c no police got involved. We were shocked and went panic. What is going to happen next to her as an international student? She asked the score to give her something in writing proving that it is a confidental settlement after she paid the fine, but they did not but gave her a receipt. how shoud we believe this is a confidential settlement after the store got so much her info? thank you so much!
she was told not to shop at this particular store for 2 years, and after 2 years, they are going to remove the records in store. Since there are no criminal charge or court involved, will they report it to her social security as she was forced to give SSN to them? Will this be a record showing up her social security check? thank you so much for your help!

as long as she paid the fine and does not go into the store for two years she should be OK
